Forvik Citizenship
First of all, apologies that this part of the site is not as slick as I would like yet. I've been swamped with responses and am struggling to keep up - thanks everyone.
The Crown Dependency of Forvik Island will generate profits for the benefit of its citizens in a number of ways. The scat paid by citizens is formally offered to the Queen as head of state, but is immediately claimed back for the running of the state. Profits from land sales will be used as decided by the Ting. Taxes withheld from local and national government will be deposited in a holding account and the interest used for state purposes as decided by the Ting. Duty-free activities, company registrations, vehicle registrations and other activities all provide potential profits for Forvik. By a continuous online voting system the Ting will decide how much of those profits will be applied to projects for the benefit of Forvik itself and how much will be distributed to citizens.
You can become a citizen of Forvik in two ways. If you are a resident of Shetland, you can become a land-owning citizen, which automatically makes you part of the Ting. The Ting decides how Forvik's income is to be used. Each citizen has one vote. No citizen, or their immediate family can own more than 20 blocks of land. There are 8,000 blocks around the perifery of the island. As the island is only about one hectare in total, it will be appreciated that each block of land is quite small. For each block of land sold the Crown Dependency of Forvik undertakes to place one gulde in a holding account until all 8,000 plots are sold. This money will be used for a purpose to be disclosed at a later stage to the benefit of Shetland as a whole. The price of each block is two Forvik gulden.
Non Shetland residents can become honorary citizens of Forvik at a cost of one Forvik gulde, but cannot currently become land-owners. Honorary citizens support the aims and ideals of the Forvik State and benefit from a share of Forvik's profits as decided by the Ting.
The gulde is a gold-backed real currency. Until the currency is live, we are working on an approximate equivalent value of 1 Gulde = £60
